"I attended the Aliso Viejo Board Meeting to learn more about plans for the Dog Park. More and more people come to ask for the park, but it seems like there are more and more delays. I'll take the next guided tour, but I would like to see some progress."
If Aliso Viejo's dog owners had a place for off-leash recreation with their dogs, they would have no excuse for running their dogs off-leash in our parks. The development of a dog park would create a safer environment for all park users, and would allow dog-owners to enjoy safer recreational and social activities with their dogs and other dog-owners.

"I am a responsible dog owner. My dogs are licensed, I keep them leashed when they are not on my own property, and I always pick up after them. I would love to be able to let my dogs run off-leash with other dogs in my own park, but instead I drive to an out-of-town dog park so that my dogs and I can obey the law. Unfortunately, there are dog-owners and non-dog-owners who will act irresponsibly in our parks no matter how much we attempt to enforce laws.
You can find more information about dog parks and their benefits at www.avdogpark.org."

"I would really appreciate it if the board would move forward on the dog park initiative. We have been trying to get this going for a very long time. It is sad when new communities like Ladera get things like this and we don't even have it on the plan. It is not impossible to do nor will it be taking things away from the children.
There is a large community of people with dogs who do not have children who all pay AVCA dues that will be able to enjoy this new park as well as those with children who enjoy the immense amount of children's facilities that we have in place. A dog park is more than a place for the dogs. It is a vibrant social community where dog owners meet and exercise their animals. It is really no different than people meeting at the parks with their children and visiting while their children enjoy the fresh air and exercise.
One of the biggest plusses I can see is that once we have a real dog park, the city can really start cracking down on the off leash dog problem that is going on in every park we have. By then our partnership with the Mission Viejo Animal Services will be in place and the city can start ticketing off leash offenders because now there truly will be a place for them to go. Right now it is impossible to stop the problem because by the time anyone got here, the problem would be gone.
If there is anything we dog owners and supporters can do to help get this park on the map, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks for listening."

"Watch out for standing water in the parks, especially after rainy weather or when the sprinklers have been on in cool weather. I have found that the water does not dry up quickly enough this time of year, and could attract mosquitos and spread disease."

"I'm not sure why, but dogowners don't seem to understand the danger of allowing children to approach their dogs, even when they are on leash. Many breeds are scared by small children, and will unexpectedly snap at them. No parent should allow their child to approach a strange dog and put their face up to the strange animal. Don't count on the owner to be cautious."

"Dog owners frequently let their dogs run off leash in the outfields at Woodfield Park and DO NOT clean up after them. The result is our children stepping in their dog mess while they are playing ball. This is a common-sense "Don't" and many Little League parents would like it to stop. Please be aware that this inconsiderate behavior has an impact on the many people who use the fields the way they are intended...for ball games."
